Although at the early stages of development, e-commerce in Argentina has been growing steadily and robustly over the past several years. The overall retail industry is emerging as well. With a propensity for consumer electronic spending, this sector along with other retail sectors is expected to grow over the next several years. There is also expected to be further saturation of retail into smaller towns and cities offering even more potential for retailer growth. Since Argentina’s financial crisis in the early 2000’s, the population has become untrusting of the banking system, leading to low levels of deposits in domestic institutions. However, the increased political stability as of late has started to remove interest rate caps, allowing for more (often riskier) lending and potentially leading to a credit-led boom. Because many Argentines lack formalized credit, such sources may not be sufficient to establish identity – one of the foundations of lending. GDC’s global electronic identity verification platform, Worldview, can help. Through our in-country data partners, we have integrated established sources of identity data from Argentina’s consumer opt-in programs, government, and telco sources into one point of access for businesses needing to verify customer, partner, or counterparty identities.
