Independent Industry Leaders

GDC formed an independent Compliance Advisory Board to serve as a resource for existing and prospective clients to assist them with navigating the challenge of identity verification while maintaining compliance with AML/CTF, data privacy, and other relevant regulations. This unbiased and independent panel consists of compliance leaders with experience at Visa, Square, PayPal, Citigroup, Stripe, and other globally recognized companies.

Current Compliance Advisory Board Members


Abby is the Director of Compliance at Patreon. She was previously the Chief Compliance Officer of WePay and advised banks, MSBs, and financial technology companies on risk management and compliance matters at Promontory Financial Group. She also served as a senior compliance analyst with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, helping formulate and refine the testing standards used to carry out annual compliance risk assessment processes.

Abby earned a J.D. from Boston University and a B.A. in Finance from the University of Florida.


Jas is the Global Head, Financial Crime Compliance team at Airwallex. Previously, Jas was the Head of Financial Crimes for Stripe (US) and led the company’s AML and Sanctions programs. Prior to Stripe, he managed PwC’s Financial Crimes Fintech practice across the US West Coast.

He has over 15 years of experience with building and managing programs in the Financial Crimes and Compliance space. Digital Identity / eKYC and using technology to solve financial crimes are areas he’s passionate about.

Jas is a regular speaker at industry events, a member of the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) and an executive committee member of the West Coast AML Forum (WCAML).


Ben Gray is the Global General Counsel at Paxos. Previously, he was Square Inc.’s Chief Compliance Officer, Bank Secrecy Act Officer, and Regulatory Counsel. He led Square’s global compliance team in administering the company’s anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, sanctions, and anti-bribery compliance programs, advised on payments and regulatory legal issues, and guided the company’s financial crimes technical function.

Previously, Ben practiced law at Schwartz & Ballen LLP and worked as a federal financial regulator for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). He graduated from The George Washington University Law School and Brown University.


Malgorzata has worked with leading European startups acting as a Deputy Money Laundering Reporting Officer for SumUp, a mobile payments firm, and more recently Currencycloud (acquired by VISA). Her areas of focus include AML regulatory compliance, CDD, electronic verification, and operational compliance.

Prior to her career in financial services, Ms. Skowronska specialized in political risk analysis with a focus on organized crime and terrorism financing in Central Asia and the Caucasus. Malgorzata holds a Masters in Conflict Studies from King’s College London and has completed with distinction an ICA International Advanced Certificate in Anti-Money Laundering.


LeAnne Hoang is currently the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer at Rapyd and has over 20 years of experience in risk management and strategy development. She has also served as VP of Cross River Bank as part of a team dedicated to building the Banking as a Service division for Fintech and Startups. LeAnne began her career in the FDIC as a Commissioned Bank Examiner and later became a BSA & IT Specialist in the FDIC San Francisco Office.

LeAnne graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of San Francisco with a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and received her Executive MBA from Golden Gate University.


James Philip is a Governance, Risk, and Compliance professional specializing in Enterprise Risk Management and Anti-Money Laundering / Terrorist Financing. He currently leads a consulting practice that has a diverse range of clients from FinTech startups to International Banks.

Prior to this he was the Chief Compliance Officer of Remitly and has held senior leadership positions in the Compliance and Risk functions within global financial institutions including Visa, PayPal, Ernst & Young, Barclays Global Investors, N.A. (now BlackRock, Inc.), Barclays Bank, PLC and Citigroup, Inc.


Joacim Andersson is a Risk Management professional specializing in Process Automation, Risk Control and Anti-Money Laundering/Terrorist Financing. He is currently a product manager at Global Data Consortium.

Prior to joining GDC, he was the Director of Risk Onboarding at iZettle AB (now part of PayPal), the “Square of Europe”. There, Joacim was responsible for customer data procurement, and developed automated processes and controls for KYC, AML and Risk Assessment. iZettle registered 1,000+ daily new customers for their payments service, with high levels of automation and industry-low loss levels. Joacim has an MSc Financial Mathematics and Industrial Engineering Management from The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH).
